Honest Review #1: Atlas Coffee Club

Find Great Coffee At Your Finger Tips

Quick Blurb About Atlas Coffee Club

What is Atlas Coffee Club?

Atlas Coffee Club is an online subscription service that ships freshly roasted single-origin coffee to your door at a click of a button. Finding single-origin coffee near you can be challenging and expensive. Plus, in the past, I’ve had issues validating where the coffee came from, the type of coffee beans, the altitude, and how the bean was dried. These are the small details that matter when it comes to single-origin coffee. I have been subscribed to Atlas Coffee Club for the last year and a half and will continue to do so due to its quality of coffee, customer service, and impact.

Atlas Coffee obtains coffee beans directly from coffee farmers, with no middleman. You get amazing coffee from countries like Brazil, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, India, and more! Each month is a new coffee adventure! And its the type of coffee you can’t find in the grocery store.

Buying Coffee and Making an Impact

Coffee is significantly undervalued. Coffee farmers are regularly underpaid and exploited. Do a quick Google search and be amazed that the price of coffee is not 2 or even 3 times higher than it is. Here is a link to a good article that goes into more detail.

One of my favorite aspects of Atlas Coffee Club,  other than the delicious coffee, is that every time you buy a subscription plan, they use the money to support coffee farmers around the world. Establishing a platform for those who grow coffee to have sustainable and profitable jobs/businesses. As a meteorologist who cares about ethics worldwide (mostly due to climate change impacts on vulnerable countries), this makes me proud and happy that I am buying from a business that does good for others.

Packaging and Waiting, Patiently

How long it takes to get your coffee

When you order coffee, it will take around 24 hours for the order to process. It typically takes 1-2 days for the coffee to be roasted and then shipped. The shipping timeline can really depend on your location and is up to the mail Gods, but for me, I get my coffee within a week or less.

In total, it can range from 7-10 days before you get your coffee. I do enjoy that Atlas Coffee Club updates at each step of the process.

Packaging

When your coffee is delivered, Atlas will send an email verifying that the coffee was indeed delivered. The package is a small box made of hard cardboard. Trying to be eco-friendly, the packaging is a bonus to me!

Roast Date!

A critical piece to knowing whether your coffee is fresh or not is the roast date. If the coffee you buy does not have a roast date, you do not know whether it is fresh or not. That is why I appreciate the roast date with Atlas Coffee Club.

What Ya Get!

Beautiful Bag of Coffee!

When you get your box full of delicious coffee, you are welcomed to a beautiful bag of coffee. The designs are always unique and colorful! A precursor before getting to that amazing coffee.

Notecard and Postcard

My future wife and I enjoy each postcard we get. It is a small glimpse of the country from where the coffee came from. To treasure each bag of coffee we get, we put each postcard onto the wall, creating a stunning collection of wall art that we enjoy.

In addition to the postcard, you also get a notecard. For most, this notecard is a brief read and likely tossed away. However, I value that Atlas Coffee Club gives you notes about where the coffee comes from, such as the country it was grown in, the farm from where it was grown, tasting notes of the coffee, roast level, how the coffee was processed, and the altitude at which the coffee was grown.

The notecard provides a useful starting point to help you understand different coffee tastes. Understanding that coffee from Central America tastes different compared to coffee in Africa is a really unique experience which makes the notecard so cool to me!

The Coffee

I am not gonna tell you that Atlas Coffee is better than grocery store coffee, but it is! My future wife and I have enjoyed how fresh the coffee is each and every time we receive a bag, allowing us to taste the unique flavor characteristics of each country.

Quality and Happiness

Freshness and Quality

Brew a cup of a well-known coffee and compare it to Atlas Coffee. You will see (and taste!) the difference in quality. What you pay for each month is a bag of coffee that is fresh, unique, of the highest quality, and the certainty that each month, you will get delicious coffee.

Brewing the Coffee

One of my favorite aspects of getting great coffee from Atlas Coffee Club is experimenting with different coffee equipment. It is fun to see if there is a difference in flavor between making a French press or a V60. Below, are coffee equipment that I use to brew amazing coffee from Atlas Coffee Club.

What You See Signing Up

When you first land on the website, you are greeted with different links to their “Your Impact”, “Our Coffee”, “Gifts”, and “Get Started”. If you want to give somebody an awesome gift, Atlas Coffee Club could be your answer!

However, if you want a coffee subscription, click the yellow box “Get Started”.

When you hit the yellow box, it will automatically take you to the bottom of the page. Here, it explains what you get in the box and guarantees that you will love each coffee you get it! Which is true, I haven’t had one that I didn’t like!

The customer service at Atlas Coffee Club is also great. So if you really don’t like a coffee, they gave you the wrong coffee, or the coffee didn’t arrive at the right address. They right every wrong and are very helpful!

If you want to start your coffee journey, click the yellow box!

Once you click the yellow box saying “Start Your Journey”, it will take you to a new page where you build your plan how you want it.

The first step in building your plan is picking whether you want your coffee to be ground, whole bean, or coffee pods. The coffee pods are a new addition, which is awesome for those that like single-serve coffee. I pick whole bean because I have a coffee grinder. However, if you don’t have a coffee grinder, then pick ground. They will grind your coffee to your needs which is in the next step!

After you click “Ground”, they match the type of grind to how you like to brew coffee. One caveat is that you can only pick one, so pick the option that you use most often. If you are not sure, they do have an option for that! If I didn’t have a coffee grinder I would pick “Ground for Drip Machine”. This gives you a lot of versatility if you wanna use the grounds for a pour-over or Aeropress. Next, pick your roast preference, this part is exciting!

Atlas gives you the option between getting light to medium roast, medium to dark roast, or all roast if you feel even more adventurous! I prefer the light to medium roast, but that’s because I like more acid and fruit flavors in my coffee. My future wife likes medium to dark roast. So, we go back and forth in roast level! Pick what you like or pick a light to medium roast to explore more coffee flavors! Also, they have more options once make an account! For example, espresso roast, dark roast only, or light roast only! Next step, how much coffee do you want?

In Step 4, Atlas Coffee Club offers five options for how much you want. I typically get a single bag of coffee each month. If you don’t see an option that fits your need, email or call them to fit your wants! In the next step, how frequently do you want delicious coffee?

Now that you have customized your coffee wants, select how frequently you want coffee. It doesn’t have it listed in Step 5, but there are more options once you order your coffee and have an account. You can choose between 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and even 10-week intervals. I like the 6 weeks! One of the many great aspects of Atlas Coffee Club, is that you get coffee when you want it!

Sweet! You have customized your order! Review the order summary to double-check that the details are correct, and click continue to checkout!

This is the first of the second checkout page. Here you fill out your address. The next page is where you fill out your payment method. You can use PayPal, credit, or debt!

However, if you look closer at the order summary, there is a black line. They do give you the option to enter a promo code… giving you the option to save some money!

You can use this link to sign up today and get $10 off your first order, or use a Google Chrome extension platform called Coupert (not a sponsor) to get even more off. I have used Coupert a great many times, and have saved a lot of money! It is similar to Honey, but I have found it gives better coupons and also better rewards for you! Click this link to sign up and start saving today!

Using either coupon will save you money! So now, all you have to pay for is shipping! This is my biggest con about Atlas Coffee Club is that you do have to pay for shipping each time you order. However, the rewards program Atlas Coffee Club can combat that!

The rewards program is based on travel points and how frequently you order coffee. The more coffee you order, the more points you get. They give you options to use the points on getting free shipping and also a lifetime 10% off! Pretty solid right!
